Additional Restrictions Lifted by Evers Administration in Emergency Order #36

As part of the Badger Bounce Back Plan, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has allowed more businesses to open with restrictions. To see the full Order, visit here.

Retail stores open with restrictions, malls not open

On Monday May 11, 2020, Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm signed Gov. Evers’ Order that allows “nonessential” stand-alone or strip-mall based retail stores to open with some restrictions. However, any entrances through a mall or interconnected passage must continue to be closed to the public.

Nonessential retail stores that are reopening cannot serve more than five customers at one time.

Per the Order, face coverings are strongly encouraged for all staff and customers and social distancing requirements must still be observed.

Stores are also encouraged to offer alternatives to lines and in-person shopping, such as allowing customers to wait in their cars for a text message or phone call and scheduling pickups or entries to the store.

Drive-in movie theaters open with restrictions

This Order allows drive-in movie theaters to open, but the drive-in theaters may not offer outdoor seating. Patrons may leave their vehicles to purchase or pick up food or drink from the theater or to use the restroom.

Bars, restaurants, barbershops and salons – no changes to current Order

Wisconsin Emergency Order #36 does not allow barbershops and salons to open to clients.

Additionally, bars and restaurants are still limited to to-go or delivery options only.
